Sodus Point Park Beach

Sodus Point Park has fun for the whole family during the Summer Season such as sunbathing, enjoy a picnic, take a swim, do some fishing, go boating, utilize the volleyball net and play on the playground. The beach supplies mats on the sand to make it accessible for all and an outside shower to rinse off beach sand after a swim. The Bathhouse offers toilets, sinks and changing stalls that are open until labor Day.

Sodus Point Park Beach has been able to be visited by many from not just all over New York, but all over the country and a few outside of! During the Summer of 2023, Census that our guards took, showed over 6,280 visitors from places in our county and beyond such as:

We would love to add your hometown to our list, so please when visiting during the season stop in and talk to one of our guards in our station when they are on their 30 min break.

Sodus Point Lifeguards had a successful 2023 season in prevention as they did not have to perform any life saving techniques and there was no missing person reported. Our guards utilized their first aid skills for assisting with splinters, scrapes, cuts, banged elbow, stubbed toes, bee sting, and sand in eyes. Our guards did contact ambulance to assist with a patron who lost consciousness for a short time period and they were able to provide our EMT’s all information needed in properly treating the patron.

This summer brought Air Quality concerns due to smoke from the North, which was something new for our Lifeguards to be interacting with for all patrons safety. The beach shut downs for 2023 season were due to concern of visibility for patrons safety in water, ensuring the water was within healthy levels to swim in, thunder storms and the lake temperature dropping to dangerous temperatures.

Two Kids Swinging

Supervised swimming is officially over and ended August 23, 2023 this year. We are looking to try and reopen again next Spring for Memorial weekend. Please remember when beach is open for swim that swimming is only held in designated areas of Wayne County Property on the lakeside beach, which runs from the Pier all the way west to Third Street, minus private waterfront property that is owned just east of Second St. There is no swimming on the kayak/canoe access of the bay on the south side of the parking lot. This is not approved by Department of Health for Swimming!

Patrons can contact Department of Aging & Youth with any questions Mon-Fri 8:30-4pm when the beach is not open at 315-946-5624. During swim season, patrons can contact the lifeguard station directly at 315-483-4459. Please feel free to friend Sodus Point Lifeguards on their Facebook page to get up to date information on water temperatures, beach openings, and beach closings!

On a personal note, after 8 wonderful years my time has come to an end. It has been a privilege and my honor to work alongside of so many great Lifeguards while being with Wayne County Department of Aging & Youth. I do not think any of them know just how much they have brighten my days, how blessed I have felt to be a part of their career journey and how lucky this world is to have these wonderful young adults entering our workforce with such valuable skills that they have gained as Waterfront Lifeguard at Sodus Point Beach!

To our lifeguards past and present, ride the waves, find your pace, always keep yourself safe and healthy in order to help others and most importantly fill that half sheet out at least 1 week prior :-)!

All  my respect and love,
Evonne D. Pomerantz
