Butler

Antoinette Brown (1825to 1921) was the first woman in the United States to be ordained as a mainstream Protestant minister. She completed the theological course at Oberlin College in 1850. However, though her professors allowed her to preach, they refused to grant her a degree. She was an itinerant preacher and lecturer until September 1853, when she was ordained minister of the Congregational church in South Butler, New York.
